FND Academy · Ally Pathway

Allyship is demonstrated through learning, relationship and Nation authority.

The first learning pathway is free. Completing it creates an Academy competency record only. It does not create cultural permission, business standing or Nation endorsement. Nation-backed Ally credentials happen later, through the Nation being engaged.

The pathway

01 · Free account

02 · Cultural learning

03 · Competency review

04 · Nation engagement

05 · Nation decision

Learners control from their profile whether authorised representatives for a verified Nation connection can view completed Academy learning. That visibility is not a claim of Nation membership, endorsement or a guaranteed credential.

Ally levels

Level 1

Ally Aware

Complete the free Ally Cultural Foundations pathway and demonstrate competency in respectful engagement with First Nations people, businesses, Nations and Country.

Requirements

  • Complete Ally Cultural Foundations
  • Submit competency evidence for human review
  • Sign and uphold the Ally Charter

What it means

The organisation has completed foundational learning. It does not mean a Nation has endorsed the organisation.

Level 2

Nation Engaged

Identify where the organisation actually operates and begin direct engagement with the relevant Traditional Owners and Nations. Completed Academy learning is visible to a verified Nation connection only when the learner enables learning visibility in their profile.

Requirements

  • Identify operating locations and projects
  • Identify the Nations relevant to those operations
  • Begin engagement and lodge agreed relationship evidence

What it means

The organisation has moved from learning into a real engagement process. It is not Nation endorsement.

Level 3

Nation Endorsed Ally

A Nation reviews the relationship and evidence under its own governance process. Only that Nation can grant a Nation-backed Ally credential for its own relationship.

Requirements

  • Nation review under its own protocol
  • Evidence of ongoing engagement and commitments
  • Nation decision recorded separately from Academy completion

What it means

A Nation has made its own decision about its relationship with the organisation. FND Academy cannot award this level.

Level 4

Sovereign Partner

A long-term Nation relationship with demonstrated procurement, employment, community benefit and other agreed outcomes, maintained through Nation-controlled review.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated long-term Nation relationship
  • Agreed economic and community outcomes
  • Periodic Nation-controlled renewal

What it means

The relationship and outcomes have been sustained and reviewed. It remains a Nation-controlled credential, not sovereign standing.

The Ally Charter

A commitment carried through the whole pathway.

  • We engage with Nations as authorities for their Country, not as a substitute for direct relationship.
  • We do not use cultural material, stories or designs without the required permission and attribution.
  • We buy from First Nations businesses fairly, pay on time and report honestly.
  • We build capability and long-term relationships rather than performative engagement.
  • We accept that Nation endorsement belongs to the Nation, is relationship-specific and can lapse or be withdrawn.

Three systems stay separate

Academy learning
Records learning and competency.

Nation engagement
Records the relationship and evidence shared for that engagement.

Nation credential
Is a separate Nation decision. Ally marks never become First Nations business standing.
